“One Decision” is a daily record app for tracking the decisions you make
Introduction
“One Decision” is a daily record app for tracking the decisions you make
“Nous sommes nos choix.” (We are our choices) — Jean-Paul Sartre
This app asks you one simple question each day: What decision did you make today?
Write it in a single line, submit it, and move on. Over time, these small entries become a clear record of how you choose — and who you are becoming.
Personal Frustration
I’ve tried to keep a journal on and off for the past ten years — and I failed
Even after several attempts, looking back on my day and the emotions I felt at the time always felt like a chore. Especially for someone with a short memory span like me.
More than that, even when I managed to journal consistently for a while, those records became too detailed to revisit. If you can’t grasp the story of your life at a glance, what’s the point of writing a journal at all?
Human-Centered Perspective / Ideation
So why do I want to write a journal?
And what is the true value behind the act of recording?
Personally, I want to track my life, and navigate where it’s heading in a rapidly shifting world. While reflecting on what it really means to record a day, one quote came to mind:
“Nous sommes nos choix. (We are our choices)” — Jean-Paul Sartre
As Sartre suggests, our choices, big or small, are what shape who we are. They are how we define ourselves, moment by moment.

Design & Technical Solution
First, I streamlined the act of writing.
As a UX designer, I believe that simplification is often the shortest path to meaning.
What users record in this app isn’t a reflection on their entire day. It’s a record of the decision they made today. Whether small or significant, each decision is captured in a single line. That’s why entries are limited to 250 characters.
You’re not recording your day — you’re recording your choice.
And over time, those choices begin to define your life.
Design & Technical Solution
Second, for recording to be meaningful, what’s been recorded must be easy to revisit and understand.
I designed two history views — a timeline and a calendar — allowing users to quickly scan and navigate their decisions. Inspired by the simplicity of a handy note, the interface makes reflection effortless and intuitive.
Design & Technical Solution
Third, on days when making a decision feels heavy, inspiration is always close.
Through the Explore feature, users can discover one-line decisions shared publicly by others, as well as short reflections and quotes from great thinkers.
They offer a quiet moment to pause, reflect, and reconsider — and sometimes the courage to choose a new direction.
Final Design
A minimalist design focused on core functionality and usability.
The final design is built around simplicity, allowing the app’s philosophical foundation and core functionality to work seamlessly together. Through a minimal, focused structure, the experience enables users to engage with its purpose and features in a clear, accessible, and seamless way.
